Just Wheels Film Night
Getting to the top of Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, is a challenge for anyone – and even more so if you have a disability. But with a good dose of determination and a lot of effort, it is possible. Come and join us for two heart-warming, awe-inspiring and visually stunning films that show how it can be done. The evening will be raising money for Just Wheels, a charity that supports people with disabilities in Tanzania. We will have a special guest, Paralympic gold medallist Karen Darke, live-streaming into the cinema to talk about her journey up Kilimanjaro.
Kupenda Film Synopsis:
On the coast of Kenya, where people impacted by disability are often shunned and viewed as cursed, three determined teenagers set out to challenge their community’s long-held stigma and climb Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Kupenda for the Children is a non-profit organization that transforms harmful beliefs and practices surrounding disability to those that improve children's lives. Kupenda works with children and youth who have long-term disabilities including physical, cognitive, sensory, and emotional health issues. They use the United Nation's definition of disability, which includes “those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments, which in interaction with various barriers, may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.”
